Potential webmaster absence

Hey, folks.

As most of you probably know, I live in Florida.  In fact, I live just north of Tampa, about a quarter mile from coastal canals, and about 1.5 miles from open water.

There's this big honkin' Cat 5 hurricane heading in our direction.

I will be going to a hurricane shelter tomorrow.  My house will not be coming with me.  It is theoretically possible, therefore, that I will be homeless soon.

If you don't hear from me for a while, that will be why.  I will try to post something here through my phone (not my favorite way to access the Internet), but that may not be possible.

I'll get word to you all as soon as I can.

Good thoughts to anyone else caught in this shit.  May we all come out the other side.

Eric Storm

Re: Potential webmaster absence

Here is an update from his facebook page:

Post storm update #1:
Switched from terror-stress to boredom-stress. We are still without power, and I haven't got a fucking thing to do.
The house came through the storm with only the mildest of damage (one gutter is a little bent up ). Of course, I've lost all the food that was in the fridge, but there wasn't an excessive amount in there, so it isn't a huge loss.
Now, if Puke... I mean Duke Energy, would get off their ass and get my power back on, we'd be fine. I don't care that you have 2 million other customers with power outages, get me my power!

Elessar: Hopefully he has better news tomorrow.

Re: Potential webmaster absence

Considering the circumstances...that would almost require him finding a Spanish treasure galleon washed into his yard...lol.

To ES: I'm glad you came through safe with intact home. I, for one, will do what little I can to help restock that refrigerator...

Re: Potential webmaster absence

I'm having to use my phone to make this post, which I hate doing, but don't have a choice because I still do not have power.

There is as of yet no estimate of when power will be restored, but it could be days. Obviously, I have no ability to conduct site business, so if you emailed me over the last couple days... you're going to have to be patient.

I'll try to make these updates when I can, and hopefully the next one will tell you that I have power back and things can get back to normal. But don't hold your breath.

The thought (and donation) is appreciated, but I don't drink any of those.  3dsmile

I'll blow it on hookers, instead.  LMAO

As to the outcome of Milton:

We got power back around 4:00pm today.  That was 2 3/4 days without power.  There are still plenty of people in this area who don't have power, and their estimate to have "the majority" of people back on is end of day TUESDAY, so we are fortunate to have it on already.

The house came through the storm with only minimal damage.  I have one piece of gutter that has pulled away, and will need to be reattached at some point.  Beyond that, and a lot of yard debris, the only real damage was to my nerves.  Sitting through a hurricane isn't fun; don't let anyone tell you it is.  The weird noises the house makes, the howl of the wind, the beating of the rain...

And the dark.  Once the power goes out, you can do nothing but sit there and stare at the wall, and listen to the storm.

Then, once the storm passes, and you realize you've survived in one piece, the utter boredom sets in.  When you're a digital person, and suddenly have no access to things digital... argh.

So, needless to say, this makes two things very clear:

1). I really like electricity and the Internet, and
2). I really, REALLY need to get the hell out of this state.

Anyone want to buy a really crappy house?  It's got a new roof on it... only abused... twice...already...

Eric Storm

PS:  Okay, yes, I was still able to use my phone, but since I didn't have an infinite ability to recharge it, I had to be careful with my usage of both my phone and tablet.

PPS:  A culinary tip:  Cold SpaghettiOs are gross.  And I was hungry enough to eat the whole can, so I'm quite clear on this.  Blech.

Ahhh Hookers and Blow, a worthy challenge :-)

Im not sure where id land if I moved Stateside but the Hatred of snow and ice would feature prominently along with a few other things and semi rural location.
I've seen most of the world worth seeing and SE Asia looks good right now, had good times there in the past in the Southern islands of the Philippines but you cant own property as a non citizen.

Either move countries or buy a retirement business like a Trailer/RV/Holiday park here again although im not sure the EPA requirements would be as easy as the 1990's was.

Love your work Eric, Stay safe

Re: Potential webmaster absence

Just realized I haven't been logged in to the Pub for the last few days. No idea how that happened so I haven't been seeing any hurricane updates except the few on Facebook.

Eric, glad you, and your house, made it through the storm. And.... Welcome back to the 21st century, bud. 3dsmile

I don't care what you do to him. I will vote for "convicted felon" Donald Trump before I ever vote for "sleepy" Joe Biden.
