Cutting is cutting, be it skin, muscle or hair. Yes, you can cut David's hair. It will act just like any other minor injury. It would last long enough for him to turn to his ghost form and back. It would not be a serious enough injury to FORCE him into ghost form.

Plastic surgery would likewise be undone at his next ghosting. That might or might not be a serious enough alteration to force him into ghost form at sunset. That would depend on the severity of the operation.

Do please note that magical means of form alteration always lead to a forced ghosting, whereas physical means do not. Only a severe physical injury would force-ghost David. Even major injuries only force him to follow his "natural cycle" (that is, ghost at night, solid by day). Minor injuries will not force either of these things, but are more easily dealt with by fading to ghost form and back.

Wait but hair is dead thus not a injury. Admittedly all of David is dead. But there are areas of the human boy that are dead like hair, nails and believe it or enamel on teeth.

You cannot think of David's body as a human body. As you note, ALL of it is dead. It IS an injury, because David's body no longer differentiates between "living, growing tissue" and "dead tissue". It is ALL "undead tissue", and its form is immutable on anything more than an exceedingly temporary scale. Do anything to alter that form, and it is an injury. Might not be a terribly uncomfortable injury, but an injury, nonetheless.

Likewise, there is little point in David cutting his fingernails.

Eric, thank you for showing us that you are not perfect.

Saying that, even with the mix-up I really appreciated being able to read SOMETHING new for Woodward after the really long and crappy day of work I just had. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the early update no matter the cost!

Anyone who has read the chapter 9 in error please don't post spoilers or talk about what has happened in open forum. If you do Eric will likely delete the post anyway and or may suspend your access to PRM or even to your account.(not that I speak for him just what I suspect will happen if you do)

All I can say is that I apologize to those who have had the story ruined for them by revealing the story out of sequence. I also apologize for the now two-month wait you'll have between August and October without new reading material from this universe. Apparently I'm getting stupid as I get older.
