What story was this in?

premise: teenage boy discovers his magical powers, struggles with established structures of magic society

specific scene: boy is in a library of magic. benevolent grandpa-figure lets him read. the books contain no visible ink, so the boy has to use a kind of "magic sight" to see "magic ink" on the pages.

please help. looking for author and story title for the scene above.

Could it be 'Wizard's Heir' by Bester.

Thanks!

That's exactly the story! I skimmed through it and recognized several other memories that kept rattling around in my head. Peace at last. And my day will be shot; I gotta read that now 3dtongue

Where could I find this story?  I Googled it, but couldn't find it.

Re: What story was this in?

I found it on SOL. First 2 chapters only.

I remember more plot than what is there, so the author must have pulled some chapters. Their blog says they want to work on the story as a whole, instead of publishing chapters as they go.
