Poll Questions

Okay, a few quick poll questions for everyone.

How many people here already know which presidential candidate they will be voting for?

I doubt there's a lot of people who know which candidate so I'll ask an easier question.

How many people know which POLITICAL PARTY their candidate will be a member of? Will you vote Republican? Democrat? Socialist? Green? Anarchist?

In a general election, not a primary, do you base your vote on the party a candidate belongs to or the candidate who comes closest to your own political ideas, morals, values etc?

As for me, I am definitely a conservative but I refuse to label myself a Republican because the party is far enough away from my views that I don't like them too much more than the other guys. I will vote republican unless a third party enters the race and actually has a good chance just because the Dems scare the shit outta me.

As for candidates. I used to like McCain but McCain has lost his touch. I don't think he'll get the nomination and if he does, he'll never win. I like Guiliani. Not a big fan of Romney's and now I'm starting to lean towards Huckabee. I like his "I'm different from all the other's" approach.

At one point, right after this campaigning started, I was pretty sure a dem would win this upcoming election. Now, I'm not so sure. I think the dems will tear each other apart and the Republicans will just finish the job. I think Hillary is unelectable. Obama has no experience and the rest are largely unknowns. I think a republican could very well pull off an upset.

What say you?

Re: Poll Questions

I wish I was as sanguine as you about the unelectability of Hillary Clinton.  I could live with a Democrat that stood by their guns - Not that I would LIKE them, but I could at least respect them - but given that Hillary's idea of leadership is apparently to change her opinion to suit the group she happens to be talking to at the time, I can't respect that, and I don't want it leading our country.

Unfortunately, I don't see a Republican candidate who's really worth electing.  Giuliani is a Dem in GOP clothing, quite frankly.  McCain, as you've said, is kind of out of the race at this point, and neither Huckabee nor Thompson has much of a shot at things unless something very surprising happens.

Obama is too inexperienced to get elected.  I honestly don't remember who else is in the running on the Dem side.  I think the Dem ticket will be Hillary, possibly with Obama as VP.

I will probably vote for the Republican candidate on the grounds that I do NOT want Hillary Clinton being the first female president of the United States.  (Note:  I have nothing against a female being President.  I just don't want HER being President.)

I am an economic conservative and a social centrist  (Which means I believe in leaving the corporations alone, for the most part; fixing the damned tax system with a national sales tax; redefining "marriage" as a religious term and using "civil union" as the legal definition of ALL pairings, straight and gay; legalizing most drugs; and redefining "statutory rape" to require a psychological profiling of the "victim" to determine whether they were capable of understanding the situation or not...)  I have never found a candidate that actually meets these criteria, so I vote for the least bad of my options, in my opinion.

So, yeah, I will probably end up voting for Giuliani, who is likely to be the GOP candidate, unless someone better comes along, which I doubt.

Re: Poll Questions

I don't know who I am voting for right now. I am a conservative, but I am not voting Republican because I am a conservative. I don't particularly like any of the Republican candidates right now.

On the Clinton thread, she would probably be one of the worst election results possible. But then again....eight years of Bush.....

Last I heard, she wants to remove video games from our children. Erase porn from the internet. Melt all the guns in the world into little metal flowers. Oh...and solve world hunger, cure AIDS, and something relating to world peace.

When I run for president in the future I will be one changing a few things in our current course. "Ok America...cut this shit out and let me turn this country back around and bring us back to the top of the world."

Re: Poll Questions

You know, I hear people keep saying this... "Eight years of Bush..."

This is a serious question:  What's he actually done that's all that bad?

- Iraq needed to happen, whether or not we found the WMD (They WERE there.  But you give a guy a month to hide something, he's gonna do a damned good job... like giving them to a neighbor country such as Syria...).  While I don't think this region will ever house a stable democracy, getting Saddam out of there was a worthwhile goal in and of itself.  Why are we still there?  Well, to me, fighting terrorists in Baghdad is much better than fighting them in Boston...

- Yes, we have a budget deficit again.  Wars will do that.

- Despite the Democrats' bitching, the tax cuts worked.  The statistics show this.

So, I mean, honestly, what is it that he's done that is so egregious that he is considered such a lousy President?  I don't think he's been one of our better Presidents, no, but I just don't see where he's done all that bad. I'd like to point out one more thing:  We haven't had another terrorist attack on American soil in six years... I highly doubt that's a coincidence...
