What Happened At EWP?

When Net Wolf (Now known as Eric Storm) gave up the site in June, 2005, he left it in the hands of Julian, and whoever Julian got to help him. Julian had assured Net Wolf that he would have plenty of time, and that he had helpers lined up. With a quiet conscience, Net Wolf turned over control of EWP, and walked away from the administrative duties.

One of the stipulations made for anyone to take over the running of EWP was that they were to develop a new version of the site that would have a redesigned back end, replacing the amateurish database design that Net Wolf had originally done. (He knows better now, but didn't have a clue how to design databases when he started doing so in 2003.)

As the months passed without any sign of a new version of the site, Net Wolf kept his peace. He, in fact, defended Julian on the forum, protesting people's lack of patience with the progress. The forum quieted down, and the evolution of the site supposedly continued behind the scenes.

In November of 2005, the domain registration for EWP was about to expire, and so there was some brief discussion between Net Wolf and Julian. It was at this point that Net Wolf first asked when the new site might be ready. Julian's answer at this point was, "a couple months", and he detailed some items yet to complete. Net Wolf accepted this answer in good faith, and it was at this point that the domain name was turned over to Julian, and Net Wolf lost all claim to the EWP domain.

Net Wolf kept his peace about the progress of the new version of the site until July, 2006. At this point, Julian and his two web-design helpers had had over a year to put out a new version. However, the only visible signs that they were doing anything at all were frivolous additions to the current site version. Things like a site hit counter, which is admittedly a useful tool, but should not have been wasted on an obsolete design. When Net Wolf demanded some indication of progress from Julian, Julian's response was abusive, argumentative, and uninformative. He made excuses for why the site was not done, but gave no hint as to when it would be, nor why he had not gotten more help for the project, since he was so short on time due to allegedly unforseen circumstances.

In August, 2006, Julian announced that the "public beta" of the site was imminent, with only a few things to finish before that happened. Around this time, there was a fiery argument between Net Wolf and Julian in IRC chat.

The original topic of the argument was rather silly, and is no longer relevant. The argument quickly reverted to a heated discussion of the lack of progress being made on EWP. Julian insisted that he (Julian) was bending over backward to meet Net Wolf's demands... but then later in the very same discussion, he admitted that Net Wolf had never asked anything of him. Many things were said, and they don't need to be repeated here. Suffice it to say, it was a clash of personalities that was not about to be resolved.

At that point, Net Wolf realized that he was not going to be able to work with Julian. He knew that Julian's lack of interest in the EWP community, along with his utter disrespect for anyone that doesn't worship him, were going to destroy the site he (Net Wolf) had spent years building. Net Wolf did not want to be part of the destruction of his creation, and wasn't willing to go down with the ship, so he bailed.

Net Wolf gave Julian full warning, on the night of the argument, that he was leaving, and was taking the Fallon Authors Society with him. Julian made it clear that he didn't much care whether Net Wolf left or not. It was at that point that the concept for The Mystic Wolf Pub came into being. And here we are.
