It's that time again...

UPDATE:

Okay, never mind.  This issue has been taken care of.  Lord Alpha has generously donated the funds to keep the site up and running until the end of 2012.  And as we all know, the world comes to an end then, so there's no need to fund it further.  Right?   Riiiiiiiiight.
3droll

Anyway, thank you, Lord Alpha.

You will notice that the donation does not show up in the little donation chart on the site.  That's because this donation, as welcome as it is, doesn't help our monthly needs at all, so I didn't want to skew the figures on that chart.

I'm leaving the rest of this message intact, just in case you didn't see it before it was taken care of, and want to know what the heck I was talking about.
3dsmile

Thanks again, LA!
Eric Storm

>>> Original message below >>>

Okay, folks... our two years is nearly up.

Wait, what do you mean, "What two years?"  You mean, you didn't keep track?

In December, 2008, the people of this site were kind enough to fund The Pub for two years.

That hosting expires in early January of 2011.

Last time, I told you I would "have some trouble" paying for the site if left to my own devices.  Now, I am telling you something a little different:  If you guys can't pay for this site's hosting, it will close.  We simply do not have the extra money to spend on it.  In fact, we have no extra money at all.  Your donations are helping us buy food at this point.

So.  Here is the plan:

Option 1:  Every penny I receive in donations ABOVE $150 EACH MONTH will be set aside for the purposes of hosting this site, up to a maximum of two years' worth of hosting/domain name registration.

Option 2:  If someone, or a group of someones, wants to contact me with an offer to simply fund the hosting in toto, that works, too.

For the record, GoDaddy hosting costs are as follows:
12 months hosting:  $84
24 months hosting: $144
domain registration: $10 / yr.

I would put all donations toward the hosting fund, but, as I said, your donations are helping us buy food, and I simply cannot do without those donations entirely for any length of time at this point.

We have three months, which will hopefully be enough time to get the necessary funding together.  If not... well, let's not think about that.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Eric Storm

Re: It's that time again...

You are very welcome Eric. And, a small plea to my fellow readers. Please help and donate...For the price of a cup of overpriced starbucks, you can help keep your favorite starving writer....Ok ok, A bit far 3dsmile
But really, 6 dollars a month is NOTHING. Go to your couch, Your car, Your drawers...You have at least that in spare change(or at least most of us do) for the price of a cup of coffee, YOU get to see the PRM for half a year. You can go without 2 cups of joe a year. DO IT!!! YOU WANT TO!!!

Re: It's that time again...

I try not to dwell on the whole donations thing, but...

There are some 3900+ members on this site.  If each one of you spent just enough to have donor access for a single year, that is, $12...  Well, let's just say that our financial situation would be a lot brighter, on a long-term basis.

I realize that many of you are as bad off as we are.  I'm just saying, there's power in numbers, and you *don't* have to donate $100 to make a difference.  $6, multiplied over dozens or hundreds of people, can make a real, tangible difference in someone's life.  Yeah, okay, so it's MY life that I'm pleading about.  So sue me!  3dsmile  (Go ahead: I've got nothing for you to win! 3dtongue)

So, if you can, please give.  If you're not in a position to be able to... then here's hoping the Universe soon favors you more greatly.

Re: It's that time again...

If just 1500 people donated 6 bucks. BTW that is LESS then half of the people here. Its 9,000 in the bank....12 bucks per raises that to 18,000

I make less than 18k a year. Come on people, I may be able to throw something eric's way, but 6 bucks is nothing.

Re: It's that time again...

I appreciate the help, Nadez.  Just make sure you're not robbing Peter (you) to pay Paul (me).  While Paul will be happy for the money, he will feel guilty if Peter went hungry to provide it.

(Was that metaphorical enough?  3dsmile )

Don't lie Nadez. We know you secretly stalk Eric. But don't worry. You're not alone. We wake up, go outside, and you're all like:

Re: It's that time again...

Nadez:

That was cryptic... why would any author (with the exception of a few with which I have personal disagreements) not be welcome here?

How come you didn't show him the group of squirrels, too?  misch_smiley

Re: It's that time again...

Take a quick look at the FAQ or the Search page, where the story codes are listed.  You'll note that there are plenty of codes of stuff I don't like.  No, I don't like gay porn... I'm not into that.  I also don't like pedo porn... but the codes are there.  We don't censor work here, unless someone can prove irrefutably that something is illegal.  I have a real problem with sites that think "Oh, we can't possibly accept stories about underage kids having consensual sex", and who then turn around and say, "Sure, it's fine if you write a story about a man brutally raping, murdering and dismembering a series of adult women.  No problem."  Maybe they can't see the hypocrisy there, but I can.  This is not a site that believes in telling people what they can read or write.

Re: It's that time again...

I forgot how much I enjoyed talking to you guys, and I forgot how much I enjoyed Eric's open mindedness im so sick of the story sites im going to who censor the hell out of authors and go on and on self righteously about such. Which leads me to believe that the few others im friends with would have the same feelings. EVERYWHERE seems to censor stuff. which in my eyes makes me think that..who wouldn't want to write here? I'll get in touch with them, see if I can bring you some good authors and maybe expand the forums a bit. As much as I love you guys (and I do) I wouldnt mind seeing some more activity out of the normal every day readers
