Re: Writing Status

I have had reviewers for most of my writing career.  I've had a formal website for handling those reviews for about seven years now.  I don't refer to them as editors OR proofreaders... mainly because I have found damned few people who have better spelling and grammar than I do.  But my reviewers are very good at finding story flow problems, plot holes, confusing spots... and giving the occasional really good idea which I ruthlessly steal from them for my stories.

I proofread my stories once, right before posting them.  Between what my reviewers will incidentally catch while reading, and that proofread, very few typos get through, so it works for me.  One of the keys to proofreading your own work, I've discovered, is making sure that you wait several days after writing it to proofread it.  Otherwise, your mind sees what you meant to type, and not what you actually typed.

But we each should do what works best for us.  I work best with a team of reviewers, so that's what I do.  Your mileage may vary.  (EPA rating 25 city, 32 highway, with ECO mode engaged and front-wheel drive.  All-wheel drive and performance mode not rated.)

Good to read that your muse is working again and your keeping busy with the writing. Looking forward to both stories.

Re: Writing Status

Update for June 14, 2019:

I have returned to writing on WAY8-3.

I do still plan to start on AC-7 soon.  Scary that AC is already nearly 100,000 words long, and I haven't yet actually gone anywhere in the story.  Yikes.

You have been going well. Plenty of places you can go from where you are, Eric. The story has a lot of potential.

Re: Writing Status

Woohoo!  I've written something for six days straight!

The sad part?  This writing streak comprises a fifth of all of my writing for the year.

This is not shaping up to be a good year.

Re: Writing Status

Update for June 25, 2019:

Agent of Change, Chapter 6 has been posted to PRM.

Chapter 7 has already been started, as previously mentioned.  Sorry this took so long to get posted, but apparently my reviewers had better things to do.

WAY8-3 is coming along slowly.  It has nearly 7,000 words at this point.

It's amazing how easy it is to creep through a story line on occasion. My target for a chapter is always around 8k words, but after editing and re-editing they've been longer lately.

Re: Writing Status

My target length per chapter varies with the story I'm writing on.  For Woodward stories, I don't consider it long enough until it's reached about 12,000 words.  Some chapters haven't met this limit.  Of course, this is because each chapter covers a full month's worth of events, and I figure if I haven't written at least 12,000 words about what happened, I didn't cover enough detail.

Other stories I've written have had as short a chapter target as 5,000 words.  To me, it has to do with the pace of the story.  The faster the story is supposed to move, the shorter the chapters should be.  But ultimately, it makes no difference in the end.  10 chapters of 12,000 words, or 12 chapters of 10,000 words, it still adds up to 120,000 words at the end of the book.

Re: Writing Status

I read a book that only had 2 words in one of the chapters. It was the book behind "Gremlins" the entire chapter was  "Pete forgot." it was all the information needed to continue the story line.

Re: Writing Status

Update for June 29, 2019:

The Woodward Academy, Year 8, Chapter 3: August has been finished, and is with the reviewers.

Since there's no way I'll make it in time for July 1st, I'll just hold onto it until August 1st, and post it then.  Okay?

...Okay!  Okay!  Geez, you don't have to shout so goddamned loud!  I'll post it when the reviewers are done.  Sheesh.

In other news, AC-7 is coming along fairly well.  It is already over 8,000 words.

Was actually thinking that wouldn't be such a bad idea, as bad as people want it, it would give you some breathing room to relax a tiny bit. Maybe.

Re: Writing Status

Just being realistic, no sense in rushing it for us when we have already waited so long, another month or couple weeks wouldn't be terrible. Would suck for those that donated JUST for the stories, but in the long run, it's like, $1 or something for another 2 weeks. It seems fair to you to not stress yourself out.

Re: Writing Status

Update for July 2, 2019:

As of today, I have written every day for the last two weeks.

The amount of writing I have done in those 14 days... comprises half of all the words I've written this year.

3dsad

That's just sad.
