Thoughts on The Book

It's been a long time since I did the story for the book. I had a number of mainstream inspirations for my thoughts on having a mind control world for porn... as I like to say, the adolescent male fantasies. Lot of water has passed under the bridge since then.

My real world is filled with activities and other stressors pretty much as any of the other contributors. One of the main reasons I cut off was a nasty disk crash. I also had been pushing the stories out to ASSM through the anon.pi.fi anonymous server simply because I did not want to have my real world associated. A few people then knew what was being done, particularly a friend in a2 who provided me an email address on a server he had in his basement to ensure I had even one more level of indirection.

As memory serves. I had done 14 chapters and thought I'd gotten much of a 15th done. Once stopped by technical issues I did not take it up again. Which for me was just as well. I had serious things to deal with that were far more important.

I've gathered together some copies again and am reading it over. I know people loved it but I really was sloppy then, knocking out a higher word count than intended sometimes, spelling badly, overusing commas (like this sentence), and generally not tying things off well.

I'm not promising anything for it. But I am reviewing it and maybe I'll try to see if there's a way to cap it off without killing myself. It seems like work, and I really hate work, if you understand that.

Re: Thoughts on The Book

You know, I remember liking The Book when I read it, but I also know that I haven't read it in many years, so I can't even remember the plot anymore.

I may get lynched for this opinion, but I'd recommend against trying to continue the story at this point, even for a "final chapter".  The reason is simply that you are almost certainly a significantly different writer now than you were then, and so the entire nature of the continuation would be different from what came before it.  Your writing style's probably different, your opinions about where to take the story are almost certainly different... in short, you wouldn't really be continuing the story you wrote, you'd be writing a new story, based on where the old story stopped.

I hate incomplete stories as much as the next person (especially my own), but I'm not sure that the story would be served by a continuation at this late stage... and I think you and your readers would be better served if you put your efforts into a new story, instead.

This is, of course, just my opinion.  That and $2.50 will get you a double cheeseburger at McDonald's.

Re: Thoughts on The Book

PS:  You didn't overuse commas in that sentence... I think maybe your first comma should have been a colon, is all.

Re: Thoughts on The Book

Just looking at the first chapter, I can both remember how much I liked writing it and how it read later...

And I see it now with the 'rush it out the door' behavior then. The style isn't that much different.

It does need polish, a little less hyperbole, and so on. I may yet just clean the scut out of the ward, post the chapters here just for the completeness. I see people have 12 of the chapters posted a few places. I might have the last two. I don't know for certain.
