Site Update - 2008-05-21

I have just finished making changes to the site's email notification system.

Up until now, those who have chosen to receive notification have received an email every time someone on their notify list updates something.  This has resulted, oftentimes, in four or five emails in a row, as someone uploads a new story.  This can be irritating.

The new system sends out one update email a day, listing all of the updates which are relevant to that user.  This also includes reposts now, which were not included in the old system at all.  If you have not been receiving any updates up until now, you still won't, so you don't need to do anything if you don't want to receive these updates.

Furthermore, a new page has been added to the User Tools section (available from the main page of the website).  On this page, called "Additional Options", you can make two changes:

1. Receive All Update Emails.  If you check this box, then the site will send you every update email that goes out, regardless of who is on your favorites / notify lists.  Please note that these emails will now also include any front-page announcement made that day.  This is a good option for busy people who don't want to visit unless there is something new to see.

2. Receive Email as HTML/ Plain Text.  The new update email defaults to HTML format, with items and contributors linked to their respective pages.  If you do not like HTML format, or your email program can't deal with it, you can switch over to Plain Text.  In this format, the links are still included in the email, but they are listed in parentheses after the item or contributor that they link to.  The output is still minimally formatted, using spaces, to keep it legible(ish).

I hope that this new system will make The Pub Experience a more pleasant one for our visitors.  Thank you for visiting.
