A Small Poll

I'm curious about something. With all of the protests and all of the violence and with the presidential election coming up in less than 60 days, I have a few questions and I would appreciate as many people as possible, from both sides of the aisle, giving their answers, thoughts and opinions on the following questions:

1) Do you believe that those in power, from the party you support, are doing what they honest and truly believe is really best for this country? Or are they just doing things to help themselves get elected/reelected and to help their party stay in power/regain power? If you believe it's some of both, do you think they find a good balance?

2) Do you believe that the elected members of the opposing party (the party, or parties, you don't support) are doing what they believe is best for this country, even if it is in opposition to what you believe they should be doing? Or do you believe they are just doing what they feel will serve them best, will keep them in power or get them reelected?

3) We've all watched as the two parties have moved further and further apart over the last 20 or 30 years. (I can clearly remember when I was a teenager, 30+ years ago, thinking that the two main parties were after the same thing, they just disagreed on minor details and how to get there.) Do you believe the party you support has become more partisan than they were 10, 20 or 30 years ago? Do you agree with this movement or not? Do you believe the party you don't support has moved further from the center than they were 10, 20 or 30 years ago? Basically, do you think your party, or the other party, have become more extreme in their views and, if so, do you agree with it?

4) Concerning the party you mostly support, do you believe elected members of your party will vote against something just because it was proposed by the other party, or by a member of the other party? Do you support this idea? Do you support it when your party does it? Do you, at least, understand it, when the other party does it? Do you think this is good for the country?

Please don't feel the need to limit your answers to strictly yes or no answers. I ask that you do give a yes or no answer but feel free to expand or explain and you feel needed to make sure your position is clear.

Thank you.

I will write out my own answers to these questions later once a few others have stated their opinions.

Re: A Small Poll

This post made us laugh. Once upon a time that laughter would be followed by crying, but now its just head shaking. We don't support anyone but...

1) "Do you believe that those in power, from the party you support, are doing what they honest and truly believe is really best for this country?"

Nope, nah, nada, ha hah ha. In the US -- we are still citizens I think -- this: "Or are they just doing things to help themselves get elected/reelected and to help their party stay in power/regain power?" and line their pockets.

2) "members of the opposing party..." Same

3) "We've all watched as the two parties have moved further and further apart," This is true in the US. "Do you believe ... become more partisan..." In many parts of the world -- we live in the Caribbean now -- this has been the case for a much, much longer time.

3A) "Do you agree with it?" It's happening, and we have to deal with reality. Crazy is ignoring reality and you can't change other people. (You can influence them, but they have to want to change. When you are the current king there isn't any reason to want change.)

3B) Back in Weimar DC -- oops meant to say Washington -- the nazis absorb the plutocrats and destroy the conservatives while the communists absorb the socialists and destroy the liberals by design not happenstance. Each believes that in a contest of extremes they will win 52-48 or so. History favors the nazis, they are both soulless murderers, but the nazis are less ideological and less incompetent.

4) We don't mostly, partly, or even slightly support either US party. One "party will vote against something just because it was proposed by the other party?" Yes if it kills two of their supporters but three of the opposition's supporters they will think it's "a good thing," victory through attrition. We do think asking France if we can lease Cayenne -- down in Guiana -- as a home for permanent 24/7/365 debates is a great idea. Ah, if all the politicians and news media were housed there on Devil's island.

Having been constantly solicted by corrupt government officials in the US, after watching administrative  judges consistently ignore evidence and rule in their employer's favor, we think all government officials are corrupt. Here in the islands you just get "up front pricing" and there is a better exchange rate.
